Nose Job - The Ins And Outs

Nose Job - The Ins And Outs # In an attempt to change the shape and appearance of the nose, nose jobs have become a popular trend in Australia. But, have you ever taken time to find out what the procedure entails? If not, you are at the right place. This article will bring you up to speed with the INS and out of this procedure.

What is a nose job?

A nose job, also known as nose reshaping or rhinoplasty is a medical procedure that helps give new shape to one’s nose. The procedure can be done for the purpose of improving the functioning of the nose or for improving its appearance.

Nose job procedures

There are two types of nose job procedures you are done in Australia. They are the surgical nose jobs and the non-surgical nose job procedures.

1. Surgical nose job procedure

This procedure is further divided into two procedures, the open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty

In closed rhinoplasty, the operation is performed through incisions that are made inside the nostrils. The surgeon will cut the inner part of the nostrils to reach the nose bone and cartilage. In some cases, the surgeon may have to break and reposition the nose bone, or reshape its cartilage. The closed rhinoplasty operation can take 3 to 4 hours. The advantage for using this procedure is that it leaves the patient without a scar.

In open rhinoplasty, the surgeon performs the surgery without accessing the nose bone and cartilage. This procedure is done to ensure the safety of the inner parts of the nose. The surgeon will make an incision across the columella – a thin lining of the nose tissues that separates the nostrils. By making the incision, the surgeon will safely remove the tip of the skin and perform the surgery. A huge disadvantage of this procedure is that it leaves a scar after the surgery.

2. Non-surgical nose job procedures

This is a cosmetic procedure which uses a dermal filler to smoothen nose bumps and lumps without having to use a scalpel. The procedure is safer than surgical procedures but does not offer permanent solution to nose problems. The fillers are known to last for 10 to 12 months at maximum.

Are they any risks involved in nose jobs

Like all other surgeries, a nose job surgery is also accompanied by several risks. However, these risks can be minimized under the guidance of an expert. Some of the risks a patient may face include nose infection, injury of the columella, bleeding nose, red spots on the skin and so on. Also, some people may have swelling on the nose, but the swelling fades after several weeks

What is The Expected Recovery Period?

Recovery begins immediately after the procedures are performed. In the surgical procedure, the splint and bandage on the nose shall be removed in a week. In the presiding weeks, the nose may appear swollen or puffy, but these effects fade after a few weeks. Cold therapies can help minimize swelling and reduce pain after the surgery.

The recovery period for nose jobs may last from a week, or several months depending of the type of procedure followed.
